I am a huge fan of televised competition: American Idol, the Olympics, beauty pageants, etc.  Today is one of my favorites…The Scripps National Spelling Bee.  While I am quite aware that this is not really metal-related, I wanted to give a big ups to the metal-drummer-lookin’ semfinalist, Alex Wells of San Diego, CA.  Check out his bio:

Alex is extraordinarily versed in music. He plays bassoon, piano, and clarinet and composes symphony and chamber music. He has performed with various statewide and local honor marching bands, and he is drum major of his school’s marching band. He loves to read, and his favorite sport is basketball. Alex aspires to be a composer and a symphony conductor.

Sounds like a metalhead to me.  Unfortunately, Alex was eliminated during Round 5 this afternoon and will not be shown on tonight’s live broadcast.  If this was a Br00tal Bee, he’d win for sure.

The Bee airs tonight on ABC @ 8 pm EST.
