DOES EVERY DAMN FEMALE METAL SINGER NEED TO MAKE A SOLO ALBUM?

Maybe I’m not the best person to address such a topic, on account of me tending to very much dislike most foo foo female-fronted metal bands, but dear lord what is going ON here??! Every time I turn around, it seems like another female singer is putting out/working on a solo album.
In general with bands (not just metal ones), there always seems to be this weird perception of female fronted groups. Like, the singer is all anyone really cares about, or a general questioning as to whether or not she’d do just fine without her band behind her. And in that way, the solo album not only indicates the confidence a particular singer has in herself to go solo, but its popularity vs the popularity of the bands’ album can also be quite telling.
Tarja of Nightwish fame has somewhat of a legit solo career going on. I mean, I don’t really have any “numbers” in front of me, but she just put out her *second* album, so I guess the gals and the gays are supporting her enough to keep it going. Then there’s Liv Kristine of Leaves Eyes. Yeah….she has a solo album now. Apparently there was a demand for that. (Who ARE you people? #srsly?) Anyway, the most recent chicks throwin’ down are Julie Christmas from Made Out of Babies and Alexia Rodriguez from Eyes Set to Kill. Again, I’m not much of a fun of either of those bands, but I have a pretty good idea how those might sound. So if you’re into that….::shrug:: And I’ve definitely heard something about albums from both Anette Olzon of Nightwish (which I believe was put off due to her pregnancy) and Simone Simons of Epica.
But what do you think? Are most of these female-fronted bands really only *made* by their leading ladies? Does their desire to make a solo album show any sort of “disloyalty” or non legitimacy to their band? Should all these bitches just STFU? Did my half ass post on this totally not inspire you?
One thing’s for sure: I reeeeally hope any other girls thinking about taking this “leap” bring as much lulz as this:
