Hey! New girly metal!
Sometimes I get forwards and emails about various metal bands and usually it’s kinda of hit or miss (but you can always send me and Elise emails at reigninblonde@gmail.com!). Today was more of a hit kind of day.
RiB reader Ryan gave me some info on two female fronted metal bands on the rise and now I’m bringing them to you. First up is Madder Mortem from Norway. I’d say that in a strange way, they’re kind of a mix between Nightwish (with Anette) and Otep (sans ANGER). It’s the kind of metal that I can see myself listening to on a weekend night when I just want to relax at home and drink some wine, with or without friends. Not that you couldn’t really jam out to them- see the track “My Name Is Silence”- but they’re metal from Norway that isn’t Mayhem. I like.
And secondly is Ellsbeth from California. Melodic, gothic, progressive. The closest comparison that comes to mind is that musically- they’re reminiscent of Kittie from the Oracle era. Vocally, Shannon (no last name?) doesn’t sound a thing like Morgan Lander so don’t get caught up in the Kittie comparison, but if Kittie wasn’t all female and had more of a melodic sound with more guitar riffs and dramatics, they might sound like Ellsbeth.
Check em out, and reign on!
