WARP IT

Isn’t this comforting to know: According to this article from Label Networks, the Vans Warped Tour is still going strong. Dad got laid off from the office, and sister can’t afford college, but gee golly, these crazy kids are still going to get their shitty music fix, no matter how many weeks’ allowance it takes.
Julia and I just happened to discuss this past weekend how she went to Warped Tour one year. I’ve never been, and therefore, I win. I hate outdoor festivals. I hate watching 15-year olds make out. I hate sad hair. I hate neon scene t-shirts. I could go on…but, you get the idea.
But ok, I get it. Not everyone likes the same music, and not everyone lives in a city like New York, where there are several opportunities every week to see a good show. For people who live in cow country, this might be one of the few chances during the year to see some live music. If that’s the case, allow me to steer you in the right direction:
Bands that are even remotely worth checking out:
Alexisonfire - I saw them once during college, and they were pretty fun. I thought they broke up…did I just imagine that?
Black Tide - Cute little boy metal band. They apparently play a few Metallica covers.
Gallows - Fun Brit punk.
In This Moment - Not really a fan, but great eye candy for the dudes.
Saosin - One of the wussiest bands I actually kinda/sorta enjoy listening to.
The Devil Wears Prada - This is about as ‘metal’ as Warped Tour gets.
Thrice - I have a soft spot for them. They’re ok. They do they thanggg.
Underoath - I don’t typically go for this whole ‘Jesus’ thing, but, they put on a decent show.
Bands you should throw rocks or other random objects at:
3OH!3, Attack Attack, Breathe Carolina, brokeNCYDE
Bands that need to just give it up already and get real jobs:
Anti-Flag, Authority Zero, Bad Religion, Big D & The Kids Table, Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, Guttermouth, Less Than Jake, NOFX, The Ataris
Just remember to wear sunscreen out there!
