SONGS I LIKE BY BANDS I DON’T

Here’s one I’m sure everyone can relate to: Name some bands that you’d say you don’t really like much at all, but they have that *one* song that you actually do kinda dig.
Most of the songs on my list don’t exactly dig too deep into the bands’ catalogs, but are rather tracks that were used as singles/videos. I mean, I’m flat out telling you I don’t like these bands very much, so why would I bother listening to a whole album, amirite?
Anyway, here it goes:
Attack Attack! - “Smokahontas”
This is the song that prompted me to do this post in the first place. After a glowing recommendation from everyone’s favorite troll, Sgt D, I decided to give the song a try. As usual, the growling turned me off, but I was surprised to hear that I liked the catchy dance beat and the clean vocal part there is on this track, especially during the breakdown part at the 1:55 mark. The only problem is, the guy who sings said clean vocal part is the one that just left the band because he found “god.” So I guess the “good” of this band pretty much ends here for me.
Epica - “Never Enough”
Besides the whole omg-I-wouldn’t-blame-my-boyfriend-if-he-wanted-to-leave-me-for-this-chick thing, I really don’t get the appeal of Epica. It’s basically just a lot of “la la la,” “whine whine whine.” But the Euros always eat shit like this up, so good for them. Anyway…”Never Enough” is definitely a lot more up-tempo and less drawn out than a lot of other Epica songs I’ve heard in the past. (It’s probably why they made it one of their singles.) It’s got a good hook, and I guess that’s all I can ask for from a band like this.
All That Remains - “The Air That I Breathe”
Overall, All That Remains are a bit too “America! Fuck yeah!” for me, but I always kinda dug this one song. Between the gun shot intro, and the helicopter in the video, I can’t help but wonder if this was some failed attempt at scoring an ARMY commercial. I dig the unintentional hilarity.
Nightwish - “The Islander”
I’ve taken to bashing Nightwish quite a bit on this blog, but it was all just for shits n giggles because I really don’t *mind* them that much at all. I find most of their songs a bit boring, but they do have a few catchy ones. “The Islander,” however, really stands out for me. It’s the only song of theirs (that I know of…are there more?) where Anette gets “demoted” to backup vocals and bassist Marco Hietala takes the lead. It’s a really nice, simple, relaxing atmospheric song. Makes me thing Nightwish maybe could have made a dope folk band instead of a foo foo symphonic one.
Cradle of Filth - “Gilded Cunt”
I don’t think Cradle of Filth are the worst band ever or anything, but I definitely cannot take too much of them. I attended their last big tour here in the US mostly to see Satyricon, who was their main support. I walked out on Cradle of Filth about five songs into their set. Dear lord, Dani Filth and his screeching. But seeing as I’m such a big Shat fan, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out why this song won me over.
What are some songs YOU like by bands you don’t?
