WUSSY WEDNESDAY - 9/16/09
First of all, this video is horrible, but it’s the only one I could find with the song I wanted. Eff you internet.
Regardless, this week’s Wussy Wednesday is a song from an album that helped shape my adolescence: “Daddy” from Jewel’s Pieces of You.
It IS called Wussy Wednesday, so prepare yourself for a little cheesiness right now. Pieces of You is an album that I believe, to this day, is part of what got me into music- period (Although obviously it’s no longer my genre of choice). In 1997 I was 10, probably 9 when it actually came out, and I remember listening to this on my discman obsessively and singing it around the house.
Anywho, I rediscovered it during college and 12 years later that shit is still good (even though Jewel has since sold out pretty hardcore). One of my favorite- and probably most angsty tracks is “Daddy.” Maybe because it’s also the most metal; lyrically speaking anyway. Observe:
“Sometimes I wanna rip out your throat, daddy…/Sometimes I wanna bash in your teeth, daddy/Gonna use your tongue as a stamp/I’m gonna rip your heart out/The way that you did mine, daddy”
Brutal. Love it. Please Jewel, forget the country BS and bring back the angsty stuff again. I miss the old you!
