YOU WANT IT, YOU GOT IT: PUSSY
Ok ok. So this new video from German rockers, Rammstein, sure does have everyone in a tizzy. I heard about it from the interwebs, but I didn’t really care to venture into it for my own because- I may be blonde, but I’m not stupid. The song/video is called “Pussy” and anywhere you go everyone is going bucknutty about how controversial it is. I can put two and two together for myself.
But it seems that no one on the metal blog-o-sphere with the aforementioned genitalia has had much to say, so I will. Let me preface this with saying that I’m no prude. In college, I TA’d a class called Human Sexuality where I lead discussion groups about everything sex-related with underclassmen. Let’s just say no stone was left unturned. But anyway, here is my opinion:
- Yes, I know, they’re German and therefore European. And we know that Europeans are much less bashful about sexuality than we puritan Americans.
- …If someone would let me know what’s even METAL about this track- I’d appreciate it.
- Lyrical content= LAME. “You have a pussy, I have a dick” Wowee. Did it take you all day to come up with that one? So deep.
- Pft, Germans…
I think you get my drift. It’s not so much that it can be perceived as degrading to women, or too graphic, or whatever. My problem is that everyone in the metal community is adding fuel to the fire by talking about it so much; when musically I think it’s barely even considered “metal.” Rammstein, you had your hit with “Du Hast.” In my book, your 15 minutes are up.
