HALLOWEEN HOEDOWN - “BLACK SABBATH”
Oh yeah, I’m about to get technical on your ass. Not technical like mathcore, but technical in the “intro to music theory” sense. One of the musical elements that makes metal “creepy” and dark is the wonderful little tritone. For those of you who may not have studied music, behold the prime example: Black Sabbath’s “Black Sabbath”
Ok class, so a tritone is the musical interval you hear above. It’s the same as an augmented 4th or a diminished 5th, also known as “the Devil’s note.” Way back when, composers weren’t allowed to compose pieces with this interval because the powers that were believed that it invoked the devil. Terrifying, really. Nonetheless, perfect for Halloween. Hope it gets you in the mood, freaks. IT’S SABBATH for crissakes…
