D. RANDALL BLYTHE: MOVIE CRITIC
A couple weeks ago I told you about the new horror film coming out starring metal’s own Randy Blythe of LoG, The Graves. This week, Randy talked about some of his favorite horror movies of all time… and the responses may surprise you. I find that anytime I read about metal musicians and their favorite scary movies it’s all about The Evil Dead, or something old an obscure like Nosferatu. As much as I love em, sometimes you guys try to hard to be cool by picking these as your faves. We like you as you are, no need to try too hard. Anywho, as per usual, I agree and disagree with his picks:
Randy Blythe’s Top 5 Horror Movies (via Metal Hammer)
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
- Children of the Corn
- The Blair Witch Project
- The Devil’s Rejects
- Ringu
I wish I knew which TCM he was referring to, but I’ll assume he meant the original. I’ve never seen Children of the Corn (yeah yeah, add it to the ever-growing list), and I’ll agree with The Devil’s Rejects. Say what you will about Rob Zombie’s Halloween remakes, but I really do like House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects. For what the plot lacks, cinematography makes up for- it’s shot in a very unique way.
BUT, The Blair Witch Project and Ringu? Interesting choices, Mr. Blythe. When Blair Witch came out, it was HUGE… but then it became kinda of campy with the sequels and prequels bullshit. I was 11 when it first came out, so I was was pretty scared… I guess I’m torn on it’s “classic” factor. Lastly, for those of you who don’t know Ringu, it’s the original Japanese version of what we know as The Ring with Naomi Watts. I LOVED The Ring when it came out, so being the nerd that I was am, I had to see the original. Friends, I believe this is one of the few cases where the American remake is better than the original.
So I agree, yet disagree with the overall picks, but give kudos for what appears to be actual honesty, and not just shtick to make you sound “more metal.” Just another example of how no matter what, Lamb of God can’t do much wrong <3
