SO, ABOUT THAT SKELETONWITCH SHOW…

AWWWWWW YEAHHHH BOIIIII *cough* I mean, uh… yeah, so let’s recap:
2/18/10- Valentine’s, Albany NY: If I could sum up this show in one sentence, it would be this- Sometimes you’ve gotta take the bad with the good. There were four bands on the bill: HOWL, Iron Age, Planet Eater, and of course, Skeletonwitch and out of all the shows I’ve been to in my life, I’ve never seen the two extremes of the likability scale come together like that. Let’s say it was like month-old moldy meat in between two of the freshest, most delicious, warm, wonderful pieces of bread you’ve ever tasted. Imagine that for a second people, and let’s move on to what I’m really talking about here…
I’d been looking forward to seeing Skeletonwitch, but I already knew that they were gonna crush so naturally I wasn’t shocked went they tore that abandoned attic-like venue apart. However, HOWL was the one other band that I’d been super curious about. Even though they had to play first to a relatively small crowd, they really impressed the likes of me. Part prog, part post-hardcore, with just a touch of thrash and doom is the best way I can describe their sound, and frankly, believe me when I say they don’t suck. I wish I could say so much for the epic disaster that was Iron Age.
Maybe they had an off-night, maybe they had WAY a little too much to drink, all I know is that I haven’t seen a band that bad in a really long time. At one point one guitarist just left the stage, and by the end the singer must’ve been thirsty cause he just walked off the stage to get a drink. I think somehow it just ended in a “Uh, we’re done now” kind of way. Totally bizarre.
Planet Eater… eh, moving on.
Finally, Skeletonwitch arrives on stage to save the day and remind us all why we love them. Good music, good laughs, good times. Alleluia, Skeletonwitch has arisen.
Question: Ever seen a band (opener or headlining act) that you’ve been disappointed by? How did it make you feel? Do you need a hug?
