THOUGHTS ON THE ART OF MOSHING
A thought occurred to me yesterday (Believe it or not, that happens from time to time): Is moshing still cool? We all know people still do it, but sometimes I find myself looking down on those people slamming themselves into strangers for the “thrill” of possibly hurting themselves. I’ve been on both sides of the scenario, but I haven’t been in a pit myself since a GWAR show in October of 08. Seriously, what is the deal with moshing RIGHT NOW?

(Me and my buddies Anthony, Tim, and Mike after aforementioned GWAR show at Magic City Music Hall in Johnson City, NY- the last time I was in a pit)
Ok, let’s talk. I remember when surviving a Hatebreed pit was a feat to behold, and black eyes and bruises were badges of honor. I don’t want to think that it’s just because I’m growing up that this doesn’t seem that cool anymore, but really, is it? I personally have a rule that from now on I’m only in the mayhem for bands that I REALLY LOVE, and not just for any old metalcore pussies that think they’re the new Slayer. But even then, is it worth it? Is it more important to focus on getting your aggression out than hearing the music you paid to see? Is it even about getting aggression out anymore, or are we in a new age of expressing joy and excitement through throwing punches? Regardless, will people ever figure out that if you can’t stand the heat than you shouldn’t be in the kitchen? We know chicks love to be in it too, but how do you DUDES feel about it? Do you try to look out for the females or is everyone equal in the scheme of metal mosh mayhem?
Looks like you guys have some homework. Discuss.
