THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN MAKE EVERYTHING OK
I hate my job. It’s one of those things where I sit there with crap to do all day long, and yet…I feel like I’ve done nothing. It’s miserable. And I still come home every day totally exhausted. This past week was extra harsh on my sleep schedule with a whopping THREE shows to attend. I saw Kreator last Saturday and Alice in Chains on Monday. Come Thursday, I wasn’t even all that excited for the show I was most looking forward to…The Dillinger Escape Plan. All I wanted to do was go to sleep. But…they’re a fav, and I know they always put on a killer show, so I knew missing it was not an option.
Leaving work that afternoon, co-workers were asking me where I was headed. I told them, not expecting them to respond to this “obscure” band name I was saying. But then one guy was all “Ohh….didn’t the drummer of Coheed and Cambria used to be in that band?” Whoa. I work with someone that actually knows SOMETHING about the music I like. This never happens.
There were two other shows going on in Manhattan that night. One was Shrinebuilder/Wolves in the Throne Room for $5 over at NYU. But…I’m not really into those bands. I heard it was fun, though. The other was WASP, which ended up being CANCELLED just a few minutes before the doors opened over some weird Meet-n-Greet mess. SUX2BU! Never a dull moment here in New York. No wonder I’m so tired…
Anyway, after watching Krista of IWABO play in a Furby costume, and suffering through Darkest Hour, I finally got to watch the Dillinger boys tear it up…literally. Much like the last time I had seen them, they were climbing on things, constantly jumping off the stage, and attempting to destroy the house speakers. Always a sight to behold. And yet, amongst all the debauchery, they still manage to play/sound better than pretty much any band I can think of. Here is a live video someone shot of “Sunshine the Werewolf” from that night:

The Dillinger Escape Plan: a band well past their peak, but still bringin’ it after all these years. Well worth the pain of getting up for my crap job the next morning.
They have an odd opening lineup for this tour, but if you’ve never seen them live before..go! Even if you have seen them live before…STILL GO! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TO A SHOW, UNTIL YOU’VE GONE TO A DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN SHOW! Here are the remaining dates:
