DAMNIT, DEMON HUNTER

*Sigh* It’s not bad, but it’s not good. And sometimes, that’s bad enough.
I was so looking forward to the new Demon Hunter album. I give them a lot of love on this site, because I think that despite the “Christian metal” tag attached to them that turns a lot of people off, they’re a pretty fucking good band. Every member knows what they’re doing and they normally produce some pretty heavy shit. But I went out and bought (yes, “bought” as in, I went to Best Buy, picked up a CD- remember those?- brought it to the register and paid. I’m one of those freaks that still refuses to purchase digital copies of albums. Long live tangible music!) a copy of the much-hyped, much anticipated “This World Is A Thorn” and well… it’s just ok.
Again, it’s not BAD by any means. The songs are catchy- especially “Collapsing”- and it’s very well produced. But the overall brutal factor that I crave just wasn’t there. I don’t hate it, but I think it’s gonna have to go into my collection of metal that I look through when I need to be more mellow and relax.
Every band is allowed one mediocre album (that’s ONE, Metallica, not THREE), and then they can bounce back and show us what they’re really made of. Hopefully, this is Demon Hunter’s one album. Sorry boys :( Better luck next album, I’m pullin’ for ya!
