“PRETTY NOOSE” FOR THE PRETTY IDOL

Lots of people roll their eyes at me when I tell them I like American Idol because they think it’s just a “karaoke competition.” Truth be told, I have never supported a contestant after their run on the show is over, but I like seeing what people come up with as far as different song arrangements throughout the season. (That said, I must once again mention how much everyone SUCKS on this particular season, but that’s besides the point.) Anyway, a friend recently asked me what I would want to sing on the show if I were a contestant, and my answer (after Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much”) is this: Soundgarden’s “Pretty Noose.”

It’s one of those songs that’d be really hard to pull off, but it’s definitely very vocally challenging, so I’m all for it. Other songs I think could work include “Comedown” by Bush, Guns N’ Roses’ “You Could Be Mine,” or perhaps Heaven & Hell’s “Follow the Tears.”

Ok guys. Pretend this isn’t gay for a second, and that there’s a lot of money at stake. What “rockin” song (that requires actual clean vocal ability) would YOU sing?
