STRAIGHT OUTTA DETWAT: TANGENTS…A SIDE PROJECT THAT’S BETTER THAN YOURS

I feel like shit today. My head hurts, I ate Mexican yesterday which is DESTROYING my asshole, and I spent the entire $40 I had to my name on Coors Lite and Megatouch last night. However, there is one thing that’s making me smile, and that is Tangents. What the fuck is Tangents, you ask? Tangents is the side project of Derek Kerswill, drummer of Unearth, Seemless, Kingdom of Sorrow, and maybe other stuff I’m too lazy to look up.
He was also in a band with this guy. Its like trying to forget Pantera’s first efforts…
.
Lucky for me, Derek is a friend of mine, and because I’m super important, I got to listen to the entire new album. It’s not metal, and its not meant to be metal. But seriously you guys, I can’t stop listening to it. Everything about this project WORKS. Everything. All the pieces fit. Think Dredg, but more radio friendly. The vocals, the flow, its almost Team Sleep-ish at times. Its one hell of a record. If you can let the horns down for a few minutes and give Tangents a listen, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If not, well, if you read my posts…you know the drill…
Unfortunately, no record deal is set yet, nor is the band fully formed. Kerswill and Dave Witham (who?) recorded the album over the course of 8 months and are currently playing the waiting game as to when and through whom the album will be released. Oh, and filling in the minor detail that is GETTING OTHER BAND MEMBERS. In the meantime, head on over to Tangents MySpace and peep out a great selection of songs off the album.
Unearth has a week left on their North American tour before heading off to New Zealand, Japan, and all those other places where people talk funny and don’t know what Taco Bell is. Go to the show. Go make fun of all the kids hardcore dancing while Stick To Your Guns is on. Silently cry to yourself afterwards. Oh, and enjoy the hell out of Unearth.
