YEAH, SERIOUSLY. YOU’RE RIGHT, STABITHA
Our buddy Stabitha Christie (who you may remember from this little ditty) posted a quasi-rant on MetalInsider.net today, and it kinda made me sit back and think for a second (a rare occurance, but it happens sometimes). I’m no “girl-power, I am woman hear me sigh roar” kind of person, but she does have a point about the Revolver Golden Gods Awards…
The awards themselves, however, ghettoize women. People I love and respect, like my bros at Metal Injection, and even here at the Insider extol the awards as a night to celebrate metal, where it matters less who won what and more that everyone comes together under the same flag. But it’s hard to feel like you’re invited to the party when the only female recipient of any non-Hottest Chick award in its two year history went to Kat Von D, whose contributions to metal are limited to her love of it and the ink featured on many dudes in metal bands.
Touche. Next thing you know, they’ll be giving awards to Jasmin St. Claire. We know that there are women in metal who have the talent to be nominated in other categories, and at the same time I’m sure having a vagina doesn’t disqualify someone from said categories either. So the real question is is really just as simple as, “What’s up with that?” Anyone got an answer?
