OVERKILL TOTALLY “BOMBED” IN TIMES SQUARE, YOU GUYS

I had quite an evening this past Saturday. Seriously. It was cray-cray. Overkill wrapped up the first leg of Killfest 2010 right here in New York with a little help from support acts like Vader, God Dethroned, Warbringer, Evile….::takes breath::, and Woe of Tyrants. Six bands is a lot. Daaaayum. Some of us need our beauty sleep. Just sayin’.
I had to jump through a few hoops to even get inside the venue, but before doing so, I noticed the crowd outside the Nokia Theater (in Times Square) was even more hectic than usual. The venue is right next to The Lion King theater, amongst other ‘Broadway’ shows, but I was standing there thinking, WTF IS UP? The number of capri-wearing suburban moms appeared about triple the normal amount.
Well, I made it inside in time for God Dethroned. They put out one of my favorite albums last year, so I was stoked to finally see them. Kinda bummed Susan Gerl left the band a few months ago, but I at least got to see hot ass Henri, the dreamy bald frontman. GOD IS DEEEEADDD!!!! (I love that shit.) Anyway, after the Dutchmen wrapped up, I got some info on the situation outside. There was a bomb threat in Times Square, and it was legit.
A bomb scare in Times Square led to the evacuation of hundreds of tourists as authorities investigated a smoking sport-utility vehicle that had been packed with propane tanks, clocks, wires and fireworks.
Nokia made no attempt to warn anyone. Times Square was pretty much on lockdown. But the show still went on! Man, what if something happened? I’d be stuck underground with a bunch of smelly inbreds. What a way to go. I’d have to snuggle up with some blankets and extra merch tees, telling ghost stories to my fellow New York metal blogerati. At least there’d be booze. This is actually starting to not sound so bad. But whatever, nothing happened….I survived.
Oh yeah, and Overkill played. ::shrug:: They actually just announced a second leg for Killfest 2010. Dates can be seen here. You should go. Ya know…if you’re into that.
