STRAIGHT OUTTA DETWAT: ANGELA GOSSOWSKI HAS A QUICKIE WITH LANDMINE MARATHON

Hey, you guys remember when I went to Scion Fest and I woke up topless? Well believe it or not, I went there with a purpose OTHER THAN drinking and making an ass of myself. I went there to interview Landmine Marathon! And I DID! Except there was a little mishap, and to save time typing (which means more time later for drinking) a couple things went wrong and the interview had to be redone. So here we are, a couple months later and finally getting to posting this. Thank a lot to these guys and gals for keeping it real, educated, and all around metal. Below is a rendition of our chat…redone…via email. Enjoy. 

What F-list porn star would you pull a Howard Jones on and impregnate and why?  

Matt: Definitely Dana DeArmond… she is the internet’s girlfriend after all! And I am assuming by impregnate you mean “not  impregnate”, no kids for me. 

Why do so many porn stars live in Scottsdale?  

Matt: I am assuming we have some sort of secret porno tax subsidy combined with the abundance of cosmetic surgeons and overall douchery in the area. It is the perfect storm of retardedness. 

If “Landmine Marathon” were a videogame, and each of you were made into a character, what would your special weapon or super power be and why?  

Matt: I would like to be like Donkey Kong, you know a big hairy monkey throwing barrels at an Italian plumber all day while hanging out with a princess. Makes total sense!

Grace: I would be Earthworm Jim an be able to detach my head and use it as a weapon because I love that game!!   

Mike: My super power would be putting my foot in my mouth. 

Ryan: That’s a tough one.  I guess my power would be to camouflage myself because I tend to wear a lot of camo and even have a camo guitar.  I could camouflage myself and have the power of reading many comic books while listening to death metal.  haha. 

Dylan: My super power would be the ability to turn water into beer. this is highly useful for myself and others around me. 

GRACE, HOW SICK ARE YOU OF BEING ASKED WHAT ITS LIKE TO BE A WOMAN IN METAL??? 

 Grace: I love being pegged as a gimmick and people acting like I’m a helpless girl. Hah! No I actually don’t mind being asked because I feel like my gender is not even an issue on stage and that’s where it matters most.   

What about Sovereign Decent are you most proud of? 

 Matt: Everything… we are so stoked on how the record turned out. We poured a lot of blood and sweat into the creation of these songs and feel that they are a great representation of us. With Ryan at the helm of the recording, it made the process even more personal in that the band was “hands on” in every aspect of the songwriting and recording.  The Dan Seagrave artwork is stellar… it is like the guy was reading out collective minds! 

Metalheads: are we going to heaven or hell?

 Matt: I would say that metalheads are going to hell if the Judeo- Christian version of Hell truly exists. I would have to think that this would not be so bad, since we would be in good company. However they say that hell is the place of eternal damnation, fire and brimstone wailing and gnashing of something or other. It gets hot in Arizona. I think we could deal with it.

How important do you think religion is to metal? 

Matt: Without a god story there would be no devil story, and that makes for an excellent metal story. I think that religion is an essential key to the spirit of rebellion against the great oppressors in our time. I think when metal or any subculture is used by religions to peddle their faith it is pretty pathetic. Christian metal, I don’t get it.

What’s the overall message the band is trying to convey? 

Matt: For Sovereign Descent there is a message of tyrannical power corrupting and oppressing societies in one way or another. I think that live our message is lets all get brutal together, let it all out and have a good time.
