GO SEE JUCIFER IN JUNECIFER!
I didn’t really think it would ever happen, but I think I’ve finally begun to see the light on Jucifer. For the longest time, I don’t think I ever quite *got* them. A lot of their songs would just sort of draaag, or they’d have this catchy up-tempo grunge sort of feel to them. But a few months ago, the band put out Throned in Blood, and it’s definitely a more aggressive kick in the balls than anything I had heard in the past. Amber Valentine sounds like a monster and I find it incredibly delightful. Recently I began to go back and listen to some of the older stuff, and I’m finding I like it a bit more now. Looks like I’ve converted! The seizure-inducing video for “Contempt” can be seen above. It was directed by David Hall, who is known for his work on Maryland Deathfest: The Movie.
And straight off their appearance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest, Jucifer are playing a series of headlining dates here on the East coast with Pennsylvania’s Gloominous Doom. I’m stoked to hit them up at the Brooklyn date. Union Pool isn’t too far from my apartment, so I can go get a sip-a-dat Crunk Jucifer and not have to worry about blowing $20 on a cab ride home.
Peep the other dates on Jucifer’s MySpace.
