Every so often tour announcements will be made that make you say “HOORAY!” and dance around your living room. And then there are times where you see an impeding tour that makes you just scratch your head in bewilderment.
Demon Hunter just announced the support for their upcoming True Defiance tour and it’s none other than Cancer Bats and Bleeding Through. Now, here’s the thing:
Cancer Bats and Bleeding Through together on tour= not that weird. In fact, I’ve already seen them on tour together 4 or 5 years ago. (PS, do people still care about Bleeding Through? No offense but I haven’t heard any talk of them in a hot minute. Did Marta get fat or something?) But Cancer Bats, Bleeding Through AND Demon Hunter just seems a little odd to me. You know cause Demon Hunter is all “white” metal and shit and the other two… aren’t. It kinda the same feeling I had when Kittie went on that ICP/Coolio tour a summer or two ago. What was up with that?
Have you seen any weird tour pairings lately? How did that turn out? What kind of metal pairing do you think would cause the Earth to melt into itself?

For the most part, us metaloids are a fan of the naughty. But naughty in a good way. Naughty fun, like boozin it up, goin’ CAHRAAAAZAAAYYY at shows, and being a part of all things dark and brooding. But it’s nice to know that most of us have a nice side too. Exhibits A and B below:
THE NAUGHTY
Motorhead fan Andrew Crawford was beaten to death outside of said band’s show in Leeds, England this week. Crawford and his cousin got into it with two other fans after the show (over a “hair burning” incident that occured earlier in the evening) and though his cousin wasn’t not seriously injured, Crawford was rushed to a nearby hospital with head injuries that later caused his death that same night. NOT OK. Live shows are supposed to be fun, and they’re certainly not supposed to end like this. Tone it down, people.
THE NICE
In This Moment, Bleeding Through and others will be playing a benefit show in California on 12/18 called “Noyz for Toyz” to benefit Toys for Tots. In case you can’t figure out what the charity does by the what it’s called, the concert will be an official drop off point for people to bring new toys for local kids in need for the holiday season. Toys for Tots is a fantastic charity that has been around for years, and whether or not you like the bands involved, it’s great to see metal bands reaching out to needy kids. (Like the idea? For those of you not in California, you can find a Toys for Tots drop off center in your town HERE)

The current issue of Revolver has hailed 22 specific women as the “Hottest Chicks in Metal of All Time” …of ALL TIME? That’s quite a statement to make, so I had to know who made the cut. Revolver has always had a boner for Marta, Cristina Scabbia, and Maria Brink, so I was less than shocked to see them. Before I get to who was missing from the list, let’s review who did make the cut:
- Lzzy Hale (Halestorm)
- Grace Perry (Landmine Marathon)
- Lita Ford
- Karyn Crisis (Crisis)
- Maria Brink (In This Moment)
- Doro Pesch (Doro)
- Dr. Mikannibal (Sigh)
- Nadja Peulen (Coal Chamber)
- Joan Jett
- Sean Yseult (White Zombie)
- Doris Yeh (Cthonic)
- Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil)
- Corey Parks (Nashville Pussy)
- Marta (Bleeding Through)
- Wendy O. Williams (The Plasmatics)
- Julie Christmas (Made Out Of Babies)
- Drain STH
- Liz Buckingham (Electric Wizard)
- Laura Nichol (Light This City)
Ok. Now, it seems that I can’t figure out exactly the criteria that amounts to “maximum hotness” is. I understand the “off all time” part, featuring gals like Lita Ford, Joan Jett, and Wendy O. Williams in their physical prime, but the rest of the list? Overall, I just get a sense of “Who?… That girl?… Does she even do anything anymore?… Didn’t that band break up?” So then I figure it really isn’t about relevancy to the current state of the scene, but purely about looks…
And then I look at the pages again and don’t see anything that special or “hot” about most of these women!!!
I’m not a hater, I swear. It’s more that I just don’t understand the judging criteria for what made this list. Perhaps we should also examine who didn’t make the cut. Stay tuned for Part 2!

Julia kinda beat me to the punch on this Satyricon biznass this morning. I gotta say, I am as excited as she is, but for slightly different reasons. (The RiB gals don’t always see eye-to-eye.) I know a lot of people aren’t into Satyricon, but I enjoy them as the fun, poppy-er side of black metal. Here’s why I think you should come party with us this ROCKtober:
5. Chthonic
Truth be told, I’ve barely listened to them, but since I know it’s mostly dudes reading this site, I might as well get this out of the way:

Yup…

According to Metal Insider, the following bands are going on tour. Together.
SATYRICON, BLEEDING THROUGH, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, CHTHONIC
At first glance I thought, “That’s cool, I’d go to that for sure.” But then I thought about it a little more. Is it just me or does this lineup not really make sense?
- Satyricon- Elise and I both like Satyricon (especially Satyr for Elise) and we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing them live. As said not too many posts ago, “Fuel for Hatred” is one of my favorite good mood metal songs.
- Bleeding Through- Elise and I
kinda remember? saw Bleeding Through last summer at Roseland, so been there done that. I would see them again- maybe this time with one less Long Beach Iced Tea- but Orange County Thrash/Synthcore (for lack of better term) doesn’t seem to go with Norwegian Black Metal.
- Toxic Holocaust- …really? I’ve seen them before as well. With GWAR. Should be pretty self-explanatory to see why one of these things is not like the other here. (Plus, just WHY? They’re not even that good and the lead singer is a Bret Michaels doppelganger)
- Chthonic- …who cares.
So really, it’s not a horrible line up, but it’s like sitting down to a meal with an ice cream sundae and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. It’s all good, but not all at once.
