Reign in Blonde [noun; plural] - Two tall, blonde chicks who bring the metal. We're not know-it-alls, and we don't 'report' unbiasedly. This is our blog where we simply discuss what's on our brutal minds. Bon Appetit.
Michael Jackson, not metal, but still awesome. “Dirty Diana” is my jam, and it ROCKS.
I wasn’t around yet during the peak of MJ’s career, but I remember the release of the “Black or White” video when I was six years old. (Copyright bullshit is preventing me from embedding it on here.) My sister and I used to dance to it. The face morphing part at the end (including a then hot, skinny Tyra Banks) was always my favorite. HOW’D THEY DO THAT?? I also love “Leave Me Alone.” And does anyone remember the Captain EO movie they had at Disney World? I saw it early 90’s-ish. It was in 3D and super scary :/ .
My man Mike, you were kinda screwed up for the past 15 years or so, but you were a true showman, and one of the most well-liked artists amongst fans of all genres.
I always liked you way more than Prince, too. (Don’t send me hate mail.)
I didn’t want to jinx my report about Pat O’Brien a couple days ago by saying “deaths happen in three’s”… But good GOD DAMN, they really do happen in three’s!
28 year-old Boško Radišić of Serbian thrash band Space Eater was killed in an apartment fire on June 2nd (The same day I reported on Pat O’Brien- weird). His sister Marija, 25, also died in the accident. Space Eater had previously toured with Municipal Waste and Sodom and had recently recorded a track for an upcoming Bombarder tribute album. Sad sad sad.
Pat O’Brien of the hardcore thrash band Cobra Clutch died in his sleep Friday night. He was 24.
(via Noisecreep) According to O’Brien’s MySpace, the guitarist was 24-years-old at the time of his death, and is survived by an infant daughter named Violet. He was a fan of ultra-violent horror films and a number of goregrind bands, like XXX Maniak and Pig Destroyer
In regards to Julia’s post on the passing of our beloved upstate radio DJ, Jennifer Coudrey, I am a bit saddened. I listened the Jen all through high school and of the trillions of co-hosts that Boris has had over the years, I would say she was my favorite. She will certainly be missed by not just the radio community, but by a large portion of The Hudson Valley.
On a lighter note, for those of who are not familiar with WRRV, I invite you to enjoy a short snippet of the morning DJ, Boris, whose blog is in my Google Reader because I still find him funny after all these years. In this clip he delights himself in screwing around with a clueless listener who is trying to identify a Linkin Park song. I wouldn’t have told her who it was either.
It may or may not have been mentioned that Elise and I met while interning for our hometown radio stations. Boris has been hosting the morning show since WRRV began but he’s had a slew of co-hosts over the years, one of them being Jen. Jen was there for a couple years and was responsible for the hilarious sound bites that listeners heard and in general she was always energetic and full of humor. While she was at the station, she was diagnosed with cancer, and eventually she left the station to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Over the weekend, Jen unfortunately lost her cancer battle at the age of 34. She will be greatly missed in the radio community.
Slava Giebel, the 20 year old guitarist for German metal band StrydegoR, was killed in a car accident this week. You’ve probably never heard of him or the band (I haven’t either), and that’s what makes it so sad- their debut album is coming out in two weeks. What horrible timing. It’s sad anyway, because it’s someone younger than Elise and I, but even more so because it’s someone from the metal community. Damn. I hope they release the album on time anyway, it’s the best way to remember a fallen comrade.
