Reign in Blonde [noun; plural] - Two tall, blonde chicks who bring the metal. We're not know-it-alls, and we don't report the news. This is our blog where we simply discuss what's on our brutal minds. Bon Appetit.
Speaking of In Flames, my FM rock station here in Syracuse is gearing up for their first big concert of the year (you know, to celebrate the fact that we haven’t seen snow for a whole three days) and in anticipation, they’ve been playing a lot from said bands on air. One of which is a band called Janus- who I’d never hear of otherwise if I didn’t listen to the radio- and their single “Eyesore”. The first time I heard it, it immediately reminded me of something, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what. And then I realized that the singer sounds a hell of a lot like Anders Friden of my beloved In Flames. The more I heard it, the more it made me think of what it would be like if In Flames was ever considered main-stream rock (it would suck). And just now watching Janus’ video and seeing what they look like (nothing like In Flames) I think I’ll stick to the real thing.
Not too shabby for terrestrial radio. I’ll definitely take that over Nickelback and Nickelback 2.0 Theory of a Deadman any day.
After a solid stint in rehab, Jesper Stromblad has rejoined In Flames. They’ve been on tour in support of their latest album, A Sense of Purpose, for over a year and now that they’re home in Gothenburg, Sweden they are back as a big old family and getting back in the swing of things.
YAY. Guess who has two thumbs and is really excited for new In Flames material? THIS GIRL.
Not long ago, Elise posted about the best music to workout to. Since I too am a bit of a gym rat, I had to also throw in my two cents on the matter. I totally understand how people listen to hip hop to pump up their workout (that and the fact that my gym is in… Harlem), but I listen to two different genres to get me through my gym experience: Hair/Glam metal & New Wave of American Metal/Foreign Thrash and Death
I find that Hair/Glam is best for my free weights and ab exercises. Stuff like:
Poison
Van Halen
Motley Crue
Lita Ford
And for cardio, it’s definitely that harder heavier and faster, the BETTER- specifically:
Lamb of God “Sacrament” & “Killadelphia”
Walls of Jericho “With Devils Amongst Us All”
Meshuggah “ObZen”
In Flames “Come Clarity”
Pantera “Official Live: 101 Proof”
And of course, Slayer “Reign in Blood” Maybe RiB should release our own series of workout videos… it’s a thought. And then at the end of every tape we just go out and booze. Sounds good to me! This could be the beginning of something great?
This year’s POWERTHIRST!!! Rockstar Energy Taste of Chaos tour line-up has been announced, and it ain’t half bad- In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Every Time I Die, & (Demi Lovato’s fave) Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are headlining, with other “special” guests along the way.
When I was in high school, Taste of Chaos rolled through our area and I had a ticket to go but didn’t. Maybe because I came to my senses and realized that I don’t actually like My Chemical Romance. Regardless, the last time I paid attention to said tour was when MCR headlined… In Flames and Killswitch? Much improved. That deserves a “Get it” indeed.
So while every other metalhead in the Northeast and beyond was in New England this weekend, I ventured up North to my parents’ house. I baked, got my hurr did, and even did a little Spring cleaning. I ROCK SO HARD, YOU GUYS.
In the process of cleaning some stuff in my room, I came across two things:
1. A Metalocalypse press kit that I acquired at an old internship a couple years ago. The kit included a show overview, an interview with the members of Dethklok, and a ‘Concert Pain Waiver.’
2. A copy of In Flames’ Soundtrack to Your Escape. A friend of my Mom’s gave it to me a few years ago because they knew I liked metal. I was never particularly fond of this album (hence it being buried under a bunch of my old crap), but I remember appreciating the thought at the time.
Anywho, please enjoy my video of Napalm Death doing “When All is Said and Done” at last week’s Gramercy Theatre show. Barney Greenway performs like a bumbling British caveman. I mean that in the best possible way.
