Reign in Blonde [noun; plural] - Two tall, blonde chicks who bring the metal. We're not know-it-alls, and we don't 'report' unbiasedly. This is our blog where we simply discuss what's on our brutal minds. Bon Appetit.
A couple weeks ago I told you about the new horror film coming out starring metal’s own Randy Blythe of LoG, The Graves. This week, Randy talked about some of his favorite horror movies of all time… and the responses may surprise you. I find that anytime I read about metal musicians and their favorite scary movies it’s all about The Evil Dead, or something old an obscure like Nosferatu. As much as I love em, sometimes you guys try to hard to be cool by picking these as your faves. We like you as you are, no need to try too hard. Anywho, as per usual, I agree and disagree with his picks:
Oh boy. This might be an even worse decision than the time he decided to pick a fight with Mark Morton (<3!) in Scotland.
My love Randy Blythe decided to go the Rob Zombie route and dabble in the movie biz. The film is called The Graves, and GOLLY does it look GORY. There’s more blood in that trailer than there is at your local blood bank (hint hint, PSA, the time to donate is now, give blood) Check out our pal Randy around the :54 mark:
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a good horror film… and something tells me that this isn’t exactly gonna cut it. BUT, I love LoG and good or bad it’s something to do. I suppose Randy can do whatever he wants… as long as he still fronts good ol Lamb of God at the end of the day <3
Oh yeah boiii, the nominations for the 2010 Grammys have been announced. Taylor Swift, blah blah blah, Beyonce, blah blah blah, Lady Gaga, ya ya ah ah ah roomba room ba ba ga ga oo la la… let’s get to the shit we care about, Category 18: Best Metal Performance. As per usual we’re dissappointed that we only get ONE category, but the nominees are pretty solid:
Best Metal Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)
Dissident Aggressor Judas Priest Track from: A Touch Of Evil — Live [Epic]
Set To Fail Lamb Of God Track from: Wrath [Epic]
Head Crusher Megadeth Track from: Endgame [Roadrunner Records]
With a lineup like that, how can you pick a winner? Like this: LoG or Slayer FTW. My money is on Slayer, but I’d like to see Lamb of God win a Grammy (since they got beat out once before)
Readers? Who are YOU rooting for? Or is their a band that you think got snubbed?
Today on MetalSucks, a reader named Justin noticed that “My Plague” from Kittie’s latest release In The Black is a “rip-off” of Lamb of God’s “Laid to Rest.” Observe for yourself:
Allow me to quote myself, from a post on September 7th, 2009:…and you can’t say the the first 10 seconds of “My Plague” doesn’t remind you of a chick Lamb of God. Copycats? Nah. I think they just finally found what makes them purr.
I rest my case. As someone who considers both Lamb of God and Kittie to be amongst my favorite bands, I can say I clearly see the similarity, but it’s not exactly Vanilla Ice vs. David Bowie. What do YOU think?
WHAT- a weekend. Both of us were pretty busy this weekend with all of the Halloween/birthday hubub (thanks to everyone that wished me a happy one on Twitter!), but a good time was had by all. Here’s the recap:
Elise and I hit up the Dethklok/Mastodon/Converge/High on Fire show here in NYC Friday night. If I could describe it in one word, energetic would be it. All the bands AND the audience were cuckoo bananas and it made for quite the show. Plus, Dethklok DID play “Birthday Dethday” which made me a giggly little girl.
Saturday (Halloween) we did a little boozin with our buddies and metalbros over in our home borough of Brooklyn.
But what’s a birthday without PRESENTS??? Not a birthday, that’s what. The beardo got me these pretty girly brutal Swarovski headphones:
And check these out! The vinyl was part of my gift from Elise (ain’t she the best? Killadelphia is my fave LoG album), and the rest was from my parents.
A very metal birthday indeed. Hope you all had as brutal of a Halloween as we did!
Billy Milano (S.O.D./Mastery) joined my boys from Lamb of God on stage in Dallas recently and collaborated on S.O.D.’s “United Forces” Cool beans, whatever, but it sounds like Billy and Chris Adler have some kind of man crush on each other going on…
Chris on Billy: “We were honored to share the stage with a legend. Billy and S.O.D are our roots and I’ll remember this moment forever.”
Billy on LoG: “To share the stage with LAMB OF GOD was fucking amazing. It was a life changing experience. Watching the video on YouTube, I couldn’t believe the size of the stage I was on. I don’t want to say it was the highlight of my career, but it truly was a milestone. Words are escaping me while trying to describe this event, which is strange, since I never shut the fuck up.”
Well gee golly gosh. Will these guys meet up again for a second date? Check Yes, No, or Maybe and get back to me.
Not long ago, Elise posted about the best music to workout to. Since I too am a bit of a gym rat, I had to also throw in my two cents on the matter. I totally understand how people listen to hip hop to pump up their workout (that and the fact that my gym is in… Harlem), but I listen to two different genres to get me through my gym experience: Hair/Glam metal & New Wave of American Metal/Foreign Thrash and Death
I find that Hair/Glam is best for my free weights and ab exercises. Stuff like:
Poison
Van Halen
Motley Crue
Lita Ford
And for cardio, it’s definitely that harder heavier and faster, the BETTER- specifically:
Lamb of God “Sacrament” & “Killadelphia”
Walls of Jericho “With Devils Amongst Us All”
Meshuggah “ObZen”
In Flames “Come Clarity”
Pantera “Official Live: 101 Proof”
And of course, Slayer “Reign in Blood” Maybe RiB should release our own series of workout videos… it’s a thought. And then at the end of every tape we just go out and booze. Sounds good to me! This could be the beginning of something great?
Sorry dudes out there, 1/2 of the RiB team is off the market. I found myself a beardo. Go figure. But to quote one of Elise’s and my favorite pasttime’s, “Relationships require compromise. Who’s? Yours or Theirs?”
My compromise? The very NOT brutal Keller Williams:
Yes, I’m serious. I’m gonna go see… that in a couple weeks. But it made me think about YOU people (cause we CARE about each and every one of you… now buy us a drink). Have you ever dated someone that disliked metal? Or if you haven’t, would you consider it or is it a total dealbreaker? If you have, what’s the wussiest shit you’ve had to put up with for your significant other?
I figure I’ll just have to zone out to Slayer, Dimmu Borgir, and (of course) Lamb of God on the way there, and recover with more of the same on the way back. Oh boy…
I saw this video on MetalSucks yesterday, and I don’t know if anyone has ever mentioned this before, but it always seems like LoG’s singer is skippin’ to my loo all the livelong day. I know it must be hard to fill the space on a stage that massive, but I can’t help but giggle.
It’s like grade school gym class all over again when we’d have to travel to and from the other end of the room in various fashions. WALK! RUN! SKIP! GALLOP! TINY STEPS! CRAB WALK! SLIDE ON YOUR TUMMY! (I always hated that one.)
Maybe that’s why he has considerably less chub than his bandmates. Just sayin’.
Go to Youtube and type in “Patrick Swayze metal,” and this is the first thing that pops up. (I’m….retarded.) At the 2:10 mark, Randy gives a shout out to the (now) late Patrick Swayze and devotes the song “Now You’ve Got SomethingtoDieFor” to him. I think this video was shot shortly after Swayze was diagnosed with cancer in early ‘08.
