IF IN FLAMES WERE MORE RADIO FRIENDLY, WOULD THIS BE IT?

Speaking of In Flames, my FM rock station here in Syracuse is gearing up for their first big concert of the year (you know, to celebrate the fact that we haven’t seen snow for a whole three days) and in anticipation, they’ve been playing a lot from said bands on air. One of which is a band called Janus- who I’d never hear of otherwise if I didn’t listen to the radio- and their single “Eyesore”. The first time I heard it, it immediately reminded me of something, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what. And then I realized that the singer sounds a hell of a lot like Anders Friden of my beloved In Flames. The more I heard it, the more it made me think of what it would be like if In Flames was ever considered main-stream rock (it would suck). And just now watching Janus’ video and seeing what they look like (nothing like In Flames) I think I’ll stick to the real thing.

Not too shabby for terrestrial radio. I’ll definitely take that over Nickelback and Nickelback 2.0 Theory of a Deadman any day.

RADIO KILLED THE BLOGGER STAR

ATTENTION REIGN IN BLONDE READER MASSES!!!!!  I’m going to be on the air tonight @ 7pm on The Intern Show on Sirius XM channel Howard 101. If you have satellite radio, I would really appreciate you listening in.

Apparently they have zero female interns for the current semester at the Stern camp, and have been bringing in former gal pals to be guests on the show.  Listen in tonight and hear all about my adventures as a Stern intern.  It should be fun!

THE DEVIL’S CHILD

A woman in upstate New York, who is a die-hard fan of WRRV (the rock radio station Julia and I used to intern for) sent this awesome ultrasound picture to the morning DJ.  She claims to have been listening to WRRV throughout her pregnancy, and apparently, the baby digs it.  He’s flashing the horns IN THE WOMB!

Maybe when he’s born he’ll pop out screaming doom vocals.  Maybe he’ll like Dying Fetus.  Heyyooooooooooooo

-Elise

In regards to Julia’s post on the passing of our beloved upstate radio DJ, Jennifer Coudrey, I am a bit saddened.  I listened the Jen all through high school and of the trillions of co-hosts that Boris has had over the years, I would say she was my favorite.  She will certainly be missed by not just the radio community, but by a large portion of The Hudson Valley.

On a lighter note, for those of who are not familiar with WRRV, I invite you to enjoy a short snippet of the morning DJ, Boris, whose blog is in my Google Reader because I still find him funny after all these years.  In this clip he delights himself in screwing around with a clueless listener who is trying to identify a Linkin Park song.  I wouldn’t have told her who it was either.

It may or may not have been mentioned that Elise and I met while interning for our hometown radio stations. Boris has been hosting the morning show since WRRV began but he’s had a slew of co-hosts over the years, one of them being Jen. Jen was there for a couple years and was responsible for the hilarious sound bites that listeners heard and in general she was always energetic and full of humor. While she was at the station, she was diagnosed with cancer, and eventually she left the station to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Over the weekend, Jen unfortunately lost her cancer battle at the age of 34. She will be greatly missed in the radio community.
