Reign in Blonde [noun; plural] - Two tall, blonde chicks who bring the metal. We're not know-it-alls, and we don't report the news. This is our blog where we simply discuss what's on our brutal minds. Bon Appetit.
In a world of “why?”s, I bring you a “why not?”. For a reason unbeknownst to me, and probably because I spend a lot of my time in the world of alt/new rock radio, this 90’s one hit wonder has been especially pleasing to my ears as of late. I really just like to sing along mimicking the vocals and saying “I don’t mind stealing bread.” Bread is delicious! Eat up, kids.
*Sigh* Alright. This for all you guys at the Ani Difranco show a couple weeks ago at The Westcott in Syracuse. God damnit…
You guys know that the music I’ve been hearing lately has been a little less that heavy. Recently, the Beardo dragged me to see Ani Difranco. Now, let me preface this story by saying that I’m a relatively tough chick, but uh… I have my moments of weakness where my true human self shines through. If I had ever lost something at a metal show, it would more than likely be gone forever. If it wasn’t destroyed in the pit, it would be stolen, am I right? We ARE pretty good about helping an injured brother out, but if you found some money on the ground you’d probably just take it. Anyway…
Totally going out on a complete limb this week. Wussiness- especially MY wussiness-manifests itself in many different forms, not just in musical tastes. As you know, I can be a little bit of a video game nerd. Usually Guitar Hero/Rockband is my expertise, but lately The beardo and I have been playing a lot of Mario; namely the New Super Mario Brothers for Wii. He found this little gem last night on the internetz and although it’s not metal at all I just had to share. I hope you get as good of a laugh out of it as I did… if not, you need more Mario in your life.
You may remember from my Best of 2009 post that I had a couple favorite cheesy pop songs. That’s right, I’m not afraid to admit shakin my ass from time to time. But for some reason the musical powers that be don’t want this one particular tune to leave my brain anytime soon, as I have been dancing around a lot more than usual this past week. God help me. At least I’m almost done transferring all my metal into my new MacBook Pro. That should help. Stay wussy classy, metaloids. Shake it, don’t break it.
Speaking of Nirvana, and since the MTV Unplugged album is one of my favorites ever, I decided that this week we’ll go WAYYYYYY back to the OG version of “Where did you sleep last night?” A mid-morning, “know your roots” kind of wussy wake-up if you will. Keep it real, y’all.
Is there such thing as GOOD pop punk these days? Yes, and they’re called Say Anything. Their new self-titled album was one of my favorite “non-metal” albums this year. Listen to this catchy jam, “Hate Everyone” and I guarantee it’ll be stuck in your head the rest of the day….or your money back.
My bad. It’s been a hectic week (as you’ve probably noticed from the slow pace around these parts), and Elise and I have been pretty busy working on our end of the year lists, as well as other assorted holiday and personal tasks. I admit, I let Wussy Wednesday slip my mind.
This week, enjoy an OLDIE but goodie. And now that I’ve posted it, PLEASE get OUT OF MY HEAD.
Julia and are in the midst of composing our “Best of 2009” lists (which will be posted next week), and it got me thinking about some of the best music that came out last year. One of my favorite non-metal albums of 2008 was Cut Copy’s In Ghost Colours. To me, this song, “Far Away” is the musical embodiment of sunshine and rainbows.
Musically speaking, I think this is about as “hipster” as I get. Ok that was fun, I’m going to go listen to more Vader now….
Since we just had our first anniversary, I was thinking back to that fateful night we came up with the idea- and people say booze gets you nowhere…
One of the bands that entertained us- and we haven’t really heard much from since- is PowerGlove. In short: video games, costumes, metal… and enough nerdiness to go around for everyone.
As I was packin’ up my stuff for a long weekend upstate with the famz, an oddly appropriate song came on shuffle on my iTunes. This is none other than German disco sensation, Boney M. and their song “Gotta Go Home.” Apparently, this evening, I will be celebrating “Thanksgiving Eve,” in which everyone from my home dirt will be out about town. I anticipate lots of awkward encounters.
